Ashford C. Crowe attended the district schools, and resided with his father until 1871, then started his career in farming of 60 acres, from the old homestead.

Ashford married Rosa A. Burruss, daughter of Vincent Burruss and Mary Kidwell, on 7 May 1869. (Rosa A. Burruss was born on 3 Apr 1845 in Abington Twp., IN.)
