Benjamin Henry Otten's parents never came to America. Ben was educated in Seinfeldt, Germany. At the age of 19, he came to America, landed in Baltimore, MD, and located in Cincinnati, Ohio. There he worked at the brick-makers trade for 5 years. and traveled to Manetowoc County, Wisconsin. His wife joined him and resided between Manetowoc and Fond du Lac, Wisc. about 10 years. Then they bought a farm, 132 acres in 1876, Centre twp., Wayne Co., IN. He was a Democrat and Roman Catholic.

In Janie's book, gravestone says Ottenn, Henry 1822-1903 - Mary 1831-1920

Benjamin married Mary Brokamp, daughter of Bernard Henry Brokamp and Adelaide Peppersack, on 13 May 1850. (Mary Brokamp was born on 13 Jul 1831 and died in 1920.)
