Marine Corporal John Meyer, son of Debi (Toschlog) Brim, returned in early 2005 from service in Iraq.
He earned a purple heart when his LAV (Light Armored Vehicle) ran over a land mine.
They evacuated the LAV and climbed aboard a 2nd LAV, which then ran over a second,
larger landmine. John got some shrapnel in his arm and phosphorus burns on his back,
but in true Marine fashion told Debi, "just some cuts and scratches, mom". He earned
his Purple Heart and when he returned to Camp Pendleton in California, he was promoted
to Corporal.
